65 years of the Medical University of Lublin
On 12 and 13 June 2015 the Medical University of Lublin celebrated its 65th Jubilee. The celebrations were accompanied by a festive gala event closed with an academic concert, Medical University fête, a reunion of the MUL Society of Alumni & Friends and a medical picnic.
The event was held under the honorary patronage of His Magnificence Rector of the Medical University of Lublin Professor Andrzej Drop, Lubelskie Province Governor Wojciech Wilk, Lubelskie Province Marshal Sławomir Sosnowski and the Mayor of Lublin Krzysztof Żuk.
A festive gala event and Medical University fête
The celebrations began on Friday, 12 June with the gala event, which was held in the main lecture theatre in Collegium Maius. The event was hosted by the Vice-Rector for Education Professor Barbara Jodłowska-Jędrych and the University Chancellor Ewa Abramek. A short documentary about the Medical Univeristy of Lublin, its beginnings and the present day as well as its community was presented for the first time. His Magnificence Rector of the Medical University of Lublin Professor Andrzej Drop presented four employees with MUL medals. The awarded recipients included: Professor Grażyna Chodorowska, Professor Jadwiga Daniluk, Professor Grażyna Ginalska and Professor Jan Oleszczuk. The event ended with the academic concert of the Medical University of Lublin Choir and the Representative Orchestra of the Border Guards from Nowy Sącz.
Medical University fête was held in the afternoon in the Etiuda Conference and Exhibition Centre. The celebrations started with a performance by Song and Dance Ensemble of the Medical University of Lublin and a short concert of “Po godzinach” (English: After Hours) band made up of MUL graduates. On the day of the performance the line-up included: Janusz Jendrej – piano, Krzysztof Piecyk – guitar, Andrzej Maj – bass guitar, Jarosław Melko – percussion, Wojciech Remiszewski – vocalist, Krzysztof Gębka in guest appearance – guitar. “MUL Talent Show” participants included both students and faculty: Kamila Mielnikiewicz (singing), Michał Jabłoński (accordion), Oskar Fior and Błażej Podgajny (breakdance), Sara Stadnik (violin), Anna Żydek (singing), Grzegorz Hawryło (saxophone), and Aleksandra Szopa (salsa dance). The main item on the agenda was a concert dedicated to the University. The concert was entitled “65 years of music for the 65th Jubilee”. It was prepared and performed by the artists from Niedrzwica Duża District Community Centre and Niedrzwica Orchestra.
The MUL Society of Alumni & Friends reunion and medical picnic
The MUL Society of Alumni & Friends reunion was held on Saturday, 13 June in the main lecture theatre in Collegium Maius. It’s worth noting that 2015 marked the 20th anniversary of the Society. The event was accompanied by a lecture “Allergy and anaphylaxis – current guidelines” delivered by Dr. Piotr Rapiejko and a concert “Specjalista od wzruszeń” (English: A Specialist in Emotions) performed by Piotr Selim, his band and Academic Choir of the Medical University of Lublin.
“My good and noble health thou matter’st more than wealth” – was the official catchphrase of the medical picnic organized by the Medical University of Lublin for the city’s residents outside the MUL main building.
Between 10:00 a.m. and 04:00 p.m. the picnickers had the chance to participate in various workshops, demonstrations and lectures. Other picnic attractions included: a preventive campaign, consulting points, first aid classes, preparing ointments, examining the world around us under the microscope, ultrasonography, dietary, ENT and pharmaceutical advice, virtual history of MUL, the tasting of products to do with the history of herbal medicine, medical photo booth, open air experiments, and Plush Teddy Bear Lab for children as well as “To Save Grandpa!” campaign.
