Inauguration of the New Academic Year 2015/2016
On October 1st 2015 the Medical University of Lublin celebrated the New Academic Year 2015/2016. The inauguration ceremony was held in the lecture hall in Collegium Maius. 6700 students will be taught in the four departments of the Medical University of Lublin, taking fifteen degree courses.
The inauguration ceremony was held in the lecture hall in Collegium Maius in Jaczewskiego Street 4. The celebrations started with a holy mass at the hospital chapel dedicated to the Mother of God the Healer of the Sick in the Independent Public Clinical Hospital (SPSK) Nr 4. The service was conducted by Bishop Mieczysław Cisło.
“We are the university of principles” – most emphatically said His Magnificence the Rector of the Medical University of Lublin Professor Andrzej Drop in his opening address. “At this University we realise that it is the people who are our greatest asset” – he said. He also succinctly summarized the most important events of the past academic year. The year 2015 was mentioned as the year of the 65th Jubilee of the Medical University of Lublin. In closing remarks, the Rector offered his best wishes of personal and academic success to both the faculty and students.
During the most important part of the celebrations – the matriculation – the freshmen were given their index books by the Vice-Rector for Educational Affairs Professor Barbara Jodłowska-Jędrych. This solemn moment was accompanied by Gaude Mater Polonia hymn which was performed by the Academic Choir.
After the freshmen have sworn an oath, the representatives of the Student Government took the floor and addressed the assembly.
The ceremony also featured awarding the members of MUL faculty with: a Gold Cross of Merit, Brown Crosses of Merit, an Honorary Badge of Merit for Health Protection, the Commission of National Education Medals, the Minister of Health awards, the Sowa (owl) Statuette for the most cited author as well as Gold, Silver and Brown Medals for a long-standing service, MUL Medals and Badges for those who rendered great service to the University.
The inaugural lecture “Innovative drug design – can we afford an original Polish drug?” was delivered by the Vice-Rector for Scientific Affairs Professor Dariusz Matosiuk.
The musical setting was prepared by the Academic Choir of the Medical University of Lublin under the supervision of dr hab. Monika Mielko-Remiszewska.
